Yoga, Meditation, Breath Work | Hiking & Nature | Nutritional Cuisine
This small and personalized longevity wellness retreat offers the opportunity to experience the most important lifestyle factors that can help us live as long as possible in optimal health (or "health span")—within a private and peaceful ocean-view estate setting on the rural Hāmākua Coast of "Old Hawai'i."
Research has shown that staying active, getting enough sleep, reducing stress, spending time in nature, being part of a positive community and good nutrition can make a critical difference between aging and aging well. Building balance, strength and flexibility and maintaining good breathing, postural and mental-emotional habits can further reduce risk factors.
Each day of this retreat will offer all of this. This is possible because yoga is an incredibly efficient practice that, when personalized and done safely, calms the mind and nervous system while also building strength, flexibility, balance, breath awareness, mental focus, good posture, deep relaxation and even blissfulness. It is quite extraordinary that a single practice can produce all these benefits. Those of us who practice yoga know the truth of yoga's potential. It must be experienced to be understood.
Each day of this 9th annual Aloha Spirit Retreat will include morning meditation on the veranda as the sun rises over the ocean and horses graze in the field, personalized yoga and breath work, and ample free time for exploring, journaling, reading, resting, rejuvenating and soaking in the hot tub.
The retreat will include a group hike in the nearby Hāmākua Forest Reserve and a group outing to walk the historic Ala Kahakai National Historic Trail from Hapuna Beach to Mauna Kea Beach, two of the most beautiful and swimmable white sand beaches on the island.
All practices and activities will be optional.
The menu will be organic, plant-based, gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan with an abundance of prebiotic, probiotic and antioxidant-rich foods and other "super foods" like leafy greens, avocados, berries, turmeric and apple cider vinegar. Eggs and lean white meat will be available upon request. We will share nutritious and delicious meals together on the veranda, overlooking the ocean, to the sound of waves. We are happy to accommodate additional dietary requirements and preferences.
We will stay together in a beautiful and spacious 4-bedroom, 2.5-acre estate home with magnificent ocean views in a peaceful, rural location near the historic town of Honoka'a on the northeastern part of the island. The location, along the Hāmākua Coast, is a 40-minute drive to the white sand beaches of the North Kohala Coast, a 60-minute drive to both Kona and Hilo airports and a 12-minute drive to stunning Waipi'o Valley Overlook.
The four bedrooms, each located in one of the four corners of the house for utmost privacy, are finished with high quality linens, elegant touches, ceiling fan and views of the ocean and/or gardens.
The Hāmākua Coast, which stretches about 50 miles between Hilo and Waipi'o Valley, is one of the most beautiful stretches of scenery on the Big Island. Along this lush coastline, you'll find stunning cliffs with panoramic ocean views, verdant valleys, tropical foliage, spectacular waterfalls, volcanic peaks, upcountry slopes, charming towns, quaint shops, taro fields, small farms, cooling ocean breezes, and the slow, tranquil pace of "Old Hawai'i."
If you arrive from Hilo, be sure to check out the Pepe'ekeo Scenic Drive aka "old road through old Hawai'i."
Join us to unplug, decompress, slow down, drop in and experience your optimal vitality and inner radiance within the healing embrace of Old Hawai'i.

“Aloha” means “presence of breath” or “breath of life.” The ancient Hawaiians likened the ability to live the spirit of Aloha with attaining spiritual enlightenment. It’s even written into the Hawaiian Statutes: “All citizens and government officials of Hawai`i are obligated by law to conduct themselves in accordance with this law….‘Aloha Spirit’ is the coordination of mind and heart within each person. It brings each person to the self. Each person must think and emote good feelings to others... in the contemplation and presence of the life force....”
