Description

Join us for this soulful journey to “la isla de la calma,” land of 300 days of sunshine, in its spring wildflower splendor.  Known for its sunny climate, crystalline waters, white sand beaches, sheltered coves, rugged and remote mountains, delicious gastronomy and local hand-craft markets, Mallorca (also “Majorca”) is one of the Balearic Islands off the coast of mainland Spain in the Mediterranean Sea.

Situated in a peaceful and picturesque setting within walking distance to the charming Roman village Pollença, our home-away-from-home will be a beautiful, renovated historic stone villa with views of the surrounding UNESCO Serra de Tramuntana mountains.  Designed for indoor-outdoor living, this quintessential Mallorcan countryside home features a full outdoor kitchen complete with outdoor dining, lounging and yoga area next to the pool.  All with stunning views.

The 90km-long Serra de Tramuntana mountain range has been awarded UNESCO World Heritage status not because of its “glorious natural landscapes” and “imposing line of peaks that plunge straight into the sea on one side.”  This prestigious status was awarded for the way humans used irrigation and water management systems to adapt to the dry landscape within a convergence of cultures.  The Arabs, who ruled Mallorca for 300 years beginning in 902, built terracing and irrigation systems that involved “a specialised arrangement of underground channels, canals, ditches and storage basins to harvest and transport water….  Once the Christians came to power, they built on the Arab terracing and irrigation techniques, adding their own agricultural expertise and skills in dry stone construction.”  This made it possible to cultivate vegetables and fruit on previously barren slopes.  This UNESCO status also “means that wide areas of fragile and beautiful landscapes are both protected and more accessible.”  Walking paths "snake through the typical dry-stone landscapes of the Serra de Tramuntana, with opportunities to visit historical remains, learn about myths and traditions and sample the best of the local gastronomy.”  (Read more here.).

Each day of the retreat will include morning meditation, dedication of merit and personalized yoga with Christy; fresh, delicious and nutritious locally-sourced (gluten-free, dairy-free, plant-based) meals together; noble silence from bedtime till breakfast; and ample free time to explore and experience why this island has long attracted artists, musicians and writers in search of year-round sun, inspiration and solitude.

A group hike into the Serra de Tramuntana and Cove of Bóquer will be just one highlight of our five days together in this historic land of enchantment.  Bienvenido!

"It's the deeply rooted artistic tradition combined with an extraordinary natural beauty that's attracting the latest influx of creative types [to Mallorca]." (New York Times Style Magazine)

"The Balearic Islands are a natural paradise, full of protected areas and nature reserves that allow visitors to enjoy hundreds of outdoor activities.  Several of the nature reserves are underwater, such as the Cabrera archipelago in Mallorca...." (balearicmarinecluster.com)
